BSNL EVDO News

BSNL confirms the withheld in change of unlimited tariff for existing customers.

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Existing BSNL EVDO users can now breathe a sigh of relief, as BSNL has officially confirmed the withheld in changes to the unlimited tariff for its existing customers. It’s good to see that BSNL has reacted for the queries, petitions and requests which were raised by some of their customers. We must be thankful for those who made an effort in contacting BSNL for this very own sake.

Quoting from the official site:

* Existing EVDO customers would continue to avail the unlimited data usage@Rs 650 per month

This means, all existing users can continue enjoying unlimited internet at Rs. 650 per month. However the asterisk sign in the very beginning of that sentence also says that it might be for a time being. And they might increase the unlimited tariff for existing customers as well.

To conclude, it will be good for both BSNL and as well as its existing customers as far the price for unlimited tariff remains the same. If they still have future ideas of hiking for their valuable existing customers, they will definitely lose some of their customers in very short period of time.

I would like to thank ashish_evdo for updating us with the news and dark_king for bringing this into my concern via his BSNL-EVDO-CLUB SMS Channel.

BSNL splits EVDO service with 5 Plans. Unlimited plan hiked.

UPDATE:  BSNL HAS DECIDED TO WITHHELD THE HIKE. More Info

There was a rumor/news/buzz going on in our forum regarding the discontinuation of Unlimited plan on EVDO service. It has created a stir in the existing customers, and many are even planning to move on to some other ISP. And it was confirmed that BSNL has brought some new changes in it’s EVDO tariff after some customers got a notification stating the change in plans and regarding the Unlimited plan and even BSNL published the new plan on their site to fuel the fire.

So I decided to get the official news straight from the BSNL and sent a mail to JTO in Bangalore who is in charge of EVDO service. He is friendly and is in touch with me since I started this website and forum. After exchanging some mails, I’ve gathered the official news here in this post. Hope you all find it useful.

Roaming Facility is now available in BSNL EVDO.

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

As part of the hike in monthly rental, BSNL apparently has decided to give out something more to it’s customers. So from today (July 1st 2009), BSNL has now enabled National Roaming facility for this service. This means, you can now use this device anywhere in India where the network and service is available without any extra cost for usage.

To avail this service, you will have to get your device reconfigured at your nearest BSNL Telephone exchange. This information is from a Bangalore user in our forum. If you are living in some other city, please make a query about the reconfiguration for National Roaming facility (be specific about roaming) at your nearest exchange.

Thanks to jameandrew for this information. You can discuss more about this news over here.

BSNL EVDO Hikes Monthly Rental.

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

As part of Roaming Facility to be enabled, BSNL EVDO monthly rental will be increased by Rs. 100 from tomorrow. For instance, if you are paying the monthly rental of Rs. 550, it will be increased to Rs 650. This new tariff is effective from July 1st 2009 for all new customers. And for existing customers who are using this service for Rs 550, must have to upgrade to higher plan. (i.e Rs. 650) after being used the service for at least 6 months. For more information, please visit this page.

If you consider this hike as a bad news, you might be wrong. BSNL will soon enable Roaming facility for this service. So that you can use this device in other cities all over India where the service is available without any extra charges.

Thanks to one of our member for updating us about this news in this thread. You can use the same thread for the rest of the discussion.

Bangalore EVDO users must reconfigure your device to continue using EVDO service.

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Most of EVDO users in Bangalore might not be able to use EVDO and is just limited to use CDMA 1x. We thought this might be another EVDO outage in Bangalore. But this is different story. Due to some technical issues, BSNL has now shifted their main EVDO exchange from Whitefield to Telecom Building near Vidhan Soudha. This led them to change the PRL (Preferred Roaming List).

So in order to continue using EVDO (2.4 Mbps) service in Bangalore, users have to get their device reconfigured at their nearest BSNL telephone exchange. Getting your device reconfigured is free and may take few hours (if the person in charge of the duty is busy).

If you are using CDMA 1x (144 Kbps) service, you don’t have to reconfigure your device.

Thanks to our members, jameandrew and shaaradu for sharing the information regarding the change in main exchange and PRL.

If you still have any doubt, please feel free to post a question in this thread.

EVDO outage in Bangalore!

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Just like Electricity outage, Bangalore had to face EVDO outage for more than week and a half during the end of September and in the begining of October. Not all the Bangalore users faced this issue, but most people did. Which led users to connect only to CDMA 1x.

Most people, including me were frustrated with the outage. When I made contact with Customer Care officials, they said it’s sorted out. But it wasn’t for me. And it grew my impatience more and made me to contact once again. This time, they said the issues has been sorted out only in few areas and hung up!

After all this I created a thread in the forum seeking for replies from other Bangalore users and found that most people are facing the issue and few were not. So I thought to wait for few more days and planned to go to my exchange office and make a query.

But the issue was solved sooner and better. After this outage, I can see the increase in speed and stability. The reason for this outage is unknown. But I think there was either some maintenance work done all those days or some upgradation work.

Anyway, the EVDO is now up in Bangalore after a week and half outage. Happy Browsing!

BSNL EVDO Now Available In Chennai

Monday, March 31st, 2008

It’s a bit late, but nevertheless BSNL has finally rolled out their EVDO service in Chennai. While it is not clear as to if the service is CDMA-1X 2000 or EVDO(Bangalore had CDMA-1X 2000 service rolled out, only later did they start the EVDO service), based, still this should be good news for those people who have been waiting with baited breath for a whiff of fresh air in terms of wireless connectivity, that is the EVDO service. While this page mentions the availability and tariff(the same as other places), there is still lack of information about its availability, as Karthik mentions it in his tweet. Good news is that another user, Nagarajan has posted that he has obtained a connection this comment. I shall keep you guys informed regarding the status.

BSNL EVDO started at Coimbatore.

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Submitted by: Subash

I visited to one of the local exchange at Saravanampatti, Coimbatore to enquire about the EV-DO. At that time BSNL officials testing the EV-DO coverage. Actually in Coimbatore – they have installed EV-DO in 2 towers(Race course and Ganapathy). And it started function from yesterday (16-Jan-2008)

My place is near to Ganapathy (6-7 kms by road)- so they had checking the signals . In saravanmpatty they are not able to get the EV-DO signal, but they are able to receive the 144 kbps. So they plan to increase the height of the instrument at the tower.

They suggest me to wait for another week – so that they can check the signal strengths fully.

From their view- they are able to get the signal from 800-900 kbps on EV-DO on different areas within the coverage.

Also the cost for the connection is Rs 550 per month and the device rent is 200. So it comes 750 rs per month + tax.

They are treating me well :)

Welcome to BSNL EVDO CLUB

Estd: November 2007
ZTE BSNL EVDO Device BSNL is the first to roll out EVDO Internet in India. The EVDO was launched unofficially back in September 2007 by BSNL and now, after the establishing better EVDO network, BSNL has started to launch officially in most parts of the country. Since it is a very new service, the official information is very little. So we decided to set up a unofficial portal with user-based information and more. So we hope this site helps you to get information regarding BSNL's New EVDO service. Keep visiting the site and dont forget to register in the forum for free.
