RE: EVDO Coverage at Chennai
Hello Debasis,
Kovilambakkam will have 1x signal with which you can get decent speed of about 80kbps. The nearest tower would be Keelkattalai 1x tower. Currently there are only few EVDO Towers are available, to name the nearest to Kovilambakkam would be Perungudi and Maraimalai Nagar. To get a list of towers and their speed access the link: Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links.

If You buy EVDO card in Bangalore you will not able to connect to Internet using that card in chennai. Since Roaming facility is not available as of now.

RE: EVDO Coverage at Chennai
Hello Nagrajan,

Thank you very much for your highly useful reply.
In your reply you have mentioned Kovilambakkam will have 1X signal.
1X means NIC or EVDO tower signal?
Can i use EVDO card in kovilmbakam or i have to use NIC card?
As you mentioned i will get 80 kbps max download speed or average download speed?
How can i contact BSNL people to buy the EVDO card?
I will highly appriciate for help.
Thanking you once again.

Thanks
Debasis

RE: EVDO Coverage at Chennai
Hi Debasis,

1X signal is nothing but a CDMA signal which can give speeds upto 144kbps. EVDO card can be used to get both EVDO and 1X signals (No need to NIC card), the EVDO card automatically switches to EVDO/1X signal, whichever is available. You can get EVDO card in BSNL Guindy Customer Care Office, Industrial Estate, Guindy contact person: Mr.Narasimhan, Customer Relationship Officer.

Dont buy the card outside chennai as roaming wont work at this time.
The average speed you will get is around 40kbps with 1X signal and average of 300kbps with EVDO signal. It depends on the tower from which it is getting signal, less users on the tower= more speed.

RE: EVDO Coverage at Chennai
Good news to all EVDO users in Chennai:
I spoke to Customer Relatioinship Officer. He confirmed that there are going to be 21 towers (BTS) installed in the next few months. Work will start in Jan 2009, so mid of 2009 we can expect EVDO in most places in Chennai.

Thanks
Nagarajan
