RE: HOW TO SEND SMS
^ EV-DO stands for "Evolution - Data Only"
There is no voice plans (Cant make and recieve calls). Though SMS can be achieved, but BSNL hasn't enabled SMS via EVDO yet. Please don't PM/Email me regarding any technical query. They will go unread/ignored. Instead do post them in forums. Let others know ur problems too. |

RE: HOW TO SEND SMS
Since EV-DO uses the CDMA infrastructure is'nt possible to use for voice calls also?
Please check out Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links. There is a reference to voice calls fixed monthly charges. What is that for? Also do they charge just 250 for EV-DO also? |

RE: HOW TO SEND SMS
Yeah, EV-DO uses CDMA infrastructure and it is known as CDMA EV-DO, which is also known as 3G. Since its 3G video call can be achieved, but i dont know how to establish a video call, when there is no display/sound in the device..
I think BSNL is saying that we can have video conference or the video chat using the device in our PC. Lets wait and see Guests cannot see images in the messages. RE: HOW TO SEND SMS
Gigacore Wrote:^ EV-DO stands for "Evolution - Data Only" well well voice and data both are possible via EVDO card. only thing is that while placing a voice call, EVDO card selects the CDMA 1x network.. It is a diffrent thing that BSNL has disabled both these features in there firmware. coz they want to keep their hands clean by not allowing the EVDO card calling and only allowing data from it, billing becomes much more simpler. every one will definately have same bill. RE: HOW TO SEND SMS
^ ok, thanks for the correction. Lets hope BSNL will provide voice plans when other ISP providers start rolling out EVDO

RE: HOW TO SEND SMS
BSNL definitely has voice plans - just that neither engineers or consumers are aware of it. The Engineer at my local exchange (RT Nagar, Bangalore) was not able to provide details, though she said its "expensive, at about Rs 1.75 per call". SMS again goes at 50ps local, which again is costly compared to free or 10ps messages from our cell phones. All software and firmware reconfigs are done at the office, including upgrading the EVDO card from NIC to EVDO.. so its not that far!
and again, did anyone notice that the username and pwd is a 8 digit (B'lore) telephone number?? Try calling it, and you get a reply saying "switched off".. so technically, its not far away!! That means a roaming 8 digit local telephone number!! and who says india is illiterate?? |

RE: HOW TO SEND SMS
@aji, well that might be the case in banglore, In here at Nagpur, BSNL people straight way deny that their is a firmware upgrade facility, and Voice and text service activated firmware can be reflashed into the device..
(not exactly reflash, coz device has inbuilt boot loader..) Madanmohan mishra (NGP ) |
