NetBalancer - Internet traffic control and monitoring tool

Quote:Browse and do any internet activity comfortably even when your download manager or torrent client downloads huge files from internet - just lower their network priority with NetBalancer.

NetBalancer is an internet traffic control and monitoring tool designed for Windows XP/2003/Vista/Win7 (except Vista/Win7 x64 - they will be supported in a next version).

You can use NetBalancer to set download/upload transfer rate priority for any applications and monitor their internet traffic.

Applications with a higher network priority will gain more traffic bandwidth than those with a lower one.

The most important features of NetBalancer are:

* Set download and upload network priority for any process. Currently supported priorities are:
o High priority
o Normal priority
o Low priority
o Block traffic
o Ignore traffic
o Limit traffic
* Set download and upload speed limits for a process
* Show all system processes with their in and out network traffic speed
* Show current connection for any process
* Show downloaded and uploaded traffic for any process since NetBlancer's start
* View overall system traffic as a graph
* Show last 15 seconds traffic in system tray
* Fine tune priorities (see Level Severity setting).

Also NetBalancer has a menu option "Request a Feature". Using it, a user can notify us of a feature that he/she would like to see implemented. We value feedback and strongly consider implementing each request.

The main difference between NetBalancer and other traffic shaping software is that NetBalancer works with priorities, so applications with low priority won't be limited if other high priority applications don't use network.

*The Free version is limited to 5 process priorities/limits at a time

I m sharing nice Tiny software application to u Called TORRENT2EXE ( only for torrents download )

Torrent2exe is a small BitTorrent client. Its basic idea is to let users download a custom-built EXE program with the torrent file integrated into it.

The program's size is only about 50 kb. Upon its first launch, the program downloads the required components and turns into a full-fledged torrent client. To simply convert a torrent into an exe file, use the form on the right. Also, there are some additional options, such as inserting comments or ads into torrents.

Features

* Download and upload speed limits.
* Seeding.
* It is not necessary to install the program for a single torrent download.
* The program's additional features (auto startup, updates, file associations) become available after installation.
* Works in Windows XP/Vista/7 (including 64-bit).
* 100% free.

Here is the download link : Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links.

Installing fonts in Ubuntu 10.04

If you’ve started using Ubuntu 10.04 already, you are probably having a fairly good experience. What a lot of people might not know is just how deeply that good experience goes. An issue that has plagued Linux since inception is fonts. Whether it be the lack of “standard” fonts (and by standard I mean Microsoft) or the lack of “cool” or “artsty” fonts, the act of installing fonts has always mystified people. Well, that is no more. With the release of Ubuntu 10.04 and the help of the Ubuntu Software Center, adding fonts have now become child’s play in Ubuntu Linux. Does that mean you have to give up your old way of adding fonts? Of course not! But now, you have a new, simple way of adding fonts.

In this article I will remind you how to install fonts the “old school” way (although it’s not really that old school) and I will also show you how to install fonts in the “new school” way.

Old school

Before I get to the old school method, I thought it might be good to list out a few of my favorite places to get fonts. Since I used to do a lot of graphics and web design, fonts were a very important tool for me. For those fonts, some of my favorite stops were:

Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links.: One of the coolest collections of artistic fonts you will ever see. NOTE: Most of these fonts are paid-for, not free.
Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links.: A great collection of free fonts.

Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links.: A generous collection of free fonts.

Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links.: Not a bad collection.

Okay, now that you have collected a thousand or so free fonts ;-), it’s time to “install” them. This is very simple. What you need to do is create a folder called ~/.fonts. Before you create this, make sure it doesn’t already exist. You can create this folder with the command mkdir ~/.fonts. Once that folder is created it’s time to add the fonts. So all of those *ttf fonts you downloaded…move them into the new directory. Say all of your .ttf fonts are in the ~/Downloads directory. You can move them with this command:

mv ~/Downloads/*ttf ~/.fonts

Now if you log out and log back in, your desktop and applications will have full access to those fonts. Now, let’s take a look at the new school Ubuntu method.

New school

This is a very welcome feature for any Linux distribution. If you open up the Ubuntu Software Center you will notice, on the home page, a Fonts section (see Figure 1). If you click on that section you will see a very large selection of fonts that you can install. These range from various languages, to an installer for the Microsoft Core Fonts, to a nice collection of artistic fonts. If you are looking for a specific font for a specific language, you’re in luck. In this section you will find numerous different languages represented.

To install all you do is select and entry and then click the Install button. You can also get more information about the selection by clicking the More Info button. Unfortunately you do not get a sample of the font from the more information button, but in some cases you do get a nice description of said selection.

After you have installed your new fonts, it’s always best to log in and log out to ensure those fonts are available for all applications.

Final thoughts

Installing fonts has never been easier in Linux. Thanks to Ubuntu and the Ubuntu Software Center, anyone can install fonts on their Linux machine.

Q1. What is Linux?
A1. To quote the linux source README:
Quote:

Quote:WHAT IS LINUX?

Linux is a Unix clone written from scratch by Linus Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Net. It aims towards POSIX compliance. It has all the features you would expect in a modern fully-fledged Unix, including true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, shared copy-on-write executables, proper memory management and TCP/IP networking. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License - see the accompanying COPYING file for more details.

Now for those of us who don't understand the above, let me go through it. In essence Linux is a Unix type Operating system. (The operating system is that which runs your computer. It is the "Bottom" program which allows standardized access to hardware, resources etc.). It shares a common feel and programming structure (which, most likely is irrelevant to you).

Linux is written in a distributed manner, meaning that many people have contributed to building this operating system from all over the world. Linus, the creator of the Linux OS, used to live in Finland. Many developers live in the US, others in Europe, etc.

Linux is published under a free license, which allows distribution by anyone, as long as certain requirements are met. It is freely downloadable in the form of many distributions (see Q4.).

Q2. Why should I bother to look at using Linux?
A2. Because Linux is becoming a revolution. It is on the leading forefront of the IT world. A good percentage of websites you visit are in fact run on linux servers. So in essence you’ve already used linux in some capacity. The chances rise every day that one day you may have to use linux in your job. Without realizing it you might have already used linux on a something such as: PDA's, robots, parking meters, cooperate systems etc.)

Linux can also help resurrect old hardware, abandoned by more popular OS makers who have since moved on to the newest and best systems. The minimum requirements are only a 486 (Though, as with windows, it will not be a rocket).

Linux has become known and recognized for its Stability, performance and freedom. Though, for absolute rock stability its recommend to use a BSD system like FreeBSD. Because of the culture that surrounds Linux, much of the software written for it is free. For more on the linux culture, find a copy of "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" by Eric S. Raymond.

Linux's speed and reliability rival and or beat most other operating systems, including commercial ones.

Q3. What is Linux Not?

A3. Linux is Not many things. One of the most important things to realize it is not a Windows clone. As such, you will not be able to run your Windows programs without some extreme measures (See the winehq.com FAQ if you wish to see what you have to do to run some of the programs).

Linux is not an operating system to just hop into and use such as Windows or Mac’s OSX. With the invention of modern installers and Desktop environments, Linux can seem to be as easy to use as windows. Eventually you will have to get under the hood, and this is where the true learning begins.

Q4. What is a distribution?
A4. As "Linux" per-say is only the kernel of the operating system, the very abstract part that access's hardware, more utilities and programs must be provided. Early into Linux's evolution, various Distributions appeared. These Distributions were custom made kits of software, and the linux kernel that came together to form a complete Operating system. Now, there are literally hundreds of distributions (also called flavor's sometimes), some being commercial (Xandros, Suse, Redhat) and some are strictly volunteer based, non-profit (Debian, Gentoo, Slackware).

Most Commercial linux vendors offer a free download of their distribution (As linux's distribution license prevents them from doing otherwise.) All their money is made in support and other "Non-free" programs. Suse's YAST, until recently, was one of these programs. The open-source distributions have always been free. This means that getting linux is as simple as choosing a distribution, and burning it.

Because there are so many distributions, each has chosen its own path. I will separate them into three categories. Easy, Medium, and Advanced. And easy distribution is simple to install, with little or no choices needing to be made by the user, very similar to Window’s installations. An advanced distribution is the opposite: The user is given complete control into what goes into the system, and how it is set up.

RedHat Linux (RH9, Fedora core 1 and 2): Easy/Medium
Redhat is one of the first distribution’s created. It has since become one of the most popular. When one purchases a book about linux, chances are that it is a Redhat linux book. Recently, Redhat has stopped support for non commercial RH9 and below. That has been replaced with the community project, the Fedora Core. Redhat can be classified as either an easy or a medium distribution. Its install is quite simple, however, it does not necessarily have all the "amenities" of an easier distribution.

Mandrake Linux: Easy
Mandrakesoft is a company based out of France. They put out a popular distribution called Mandrake Linux. Mandrake linux is defiantly an "easy" distribution. Mandrake has one of the best (user friendly) installers in the business.

Debian Gnu/Linux. Medium / hard
Debian is a community run Linux distribution. It was one of the first to be developed in this manner. Before Debian almost all distributions were being created by companies or by single individuals. In 1994, when Debian was created, its founder Ian Murdock put out what is now called the "Debian Manifesto". To get an idea of what Debian is about, I will now quote part of that Manifesto.
Quote:

Quote:Quote:
What is Debian Linux?
=====================

Debian Linux is a brand-new kind of Linux distribution. Rather than
being developed by one isolated individual or group, as other
distributions of Linux have been developed in the past, Debian is being
developed openly in the spirit of Linux and GNU. The primary purpose
of the Debian project is to finally create a distribution that lives up
to the Linux name. Debian is being carefully and conscientiously put
together and will be maintained and supported with similar care.

It was as a result of this manifesto that debian's Social Contract was written, a document defining what Debian GNU/Linux is all about. Read the Social contract here.

Debian's installer can be daunting, however it gives a lot of power.

Gentoo: Medium/hard
Gentoo is a source distribution. This means the user compiles most everything from source. This is both good and bad. Good because it improves performance, especially on older machines. The bad is because this takes time and on a older machine, a lot of time.

LFS (Linux from scratch) : Hard.
Quote:
Linux From Scratch (LFS) is a project that provides you with the steps necessary to build your own custom Linux system.
"Why would I want an LFS system?"
There are a lot of reasons why somebody would want to install an LFS system. The question most people raise is "why go through all the hassle of manually installing a Linux system from scratch when you can just download an existing distribution?". That is a valid question which I hope to answer for you.

The most important reason for LFS's existence is teaching people how a Linux system works internally. Building an LFS system teaches you about all that makes Linux tick, how things work together, and depend on each other. And most importantly, how to customize it to your own taste and needQ1. What is Linux?

Q5. What is a desktop environment?
A5. A desktop environment is an integrated collection of X windows programs that usually include a window manager, a file manager and other GUI utilities. Examples are KDE, CDE, XFCE, and Gnome. Gnome and KDE are by far the most popular X windows environments.

Q6. I use X program in Windows, can I use it in Linux or is there a Compatible program for Linux?

A6. The answer to the first half of the question is maybe. Check out Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see links. to see if you can run the program thru Linux directly using wine.
Q7. Does Linux suffer from spyware and virus's as much as Windows?

A7. The short answer is no. As far as virus's there are some for Linux however they need to be installed by the user. So with some safety precautions you will be perfectly safe. What are these precautions? Well for one, have a general everyday user account that’s separate from root. It’s generally a very bad idea to be logged in as root.

Spyware is the easy one to answer. Since a lot of spyware are viruses or software installed on your system without your knowledge, they do not affect the Linux system. You still do get the tracking cookies but simply clearing out your cache will remove those.

=====================

If not, or you don't want to bother with wine at all, here is a site that will let you know of equivalent programs. Guests cannot see links in the messages.

“How to” Dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 7 (Ubuntu installed first)

##This guide does not work for Karamic or future releases, For that see page 14 and follow the link provided by presence1960 for how to dual boot with Grub2 (requires some reading) I will update this guide for grub2 when I have more time##

I have recently seen many posts from people trying to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 7 beta, but not succeeding. So I tried it out myself and found a solution.
Index
1. Obtain a copy of Windows7.
2. Partition your disk with gparted.
3. Install Windows7.
4. Re-install Grub.
5. Edit Grub to List Windows 7.
6. Have Fun.
__________________________________________________ ________________________________

1. Obtain a copy of windows 7.

*You can also find a torrent of this but for legal reasons I cannot provide a link. *

2. Partition your disk

**This does go wrong in some cases, if in doubt back up your valuable data.**

Boot from a Ubuntu live cd or a gparted live cd.
Start up gparted, If ubuntu is on the whole disk you need to re-size it by at least 8 gb for Windows 7. (Make sure windows 7 is on the second partition to make it easier for grub) You will be left with some unallocated space on your hard disk if you want you can partition it to NTFS or you can do it later on the windows install.

3. Install Windows 7

Follow the on screen instructions, Select the un-partitioned space to format and install windows on, or if you already made it NTFS choose your NTFS partition.

**It will ask for a product key but you have 30 days to do that. Note: Beta keys will work with the RC**

4. Re-install GRUB

Now you have windows 7 but it has completely eaten your boot loader so you need to re-install grub.
Boot from the ubuntu live cd and go to terminal.
Type in terminal:

"sudo grub"
"grub> find /boot/grub/stage1"

That should return your Ubuntu partition in the form of (hdX,Y), use that:

grub> root (hdX,Y)
grub> setup (hd0)
grub> quit

(you don’t need to type the grub> bit)

That has re-installed grub but you can no longer see windows7

5. Edit grub.
Go to terminal from normal ubuntu and type :

“sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst”

A large text file will open and at the bottom leave a line and add this:

title windows 7 beta (Loader)
root (hd0,1)
savedefault
makeactive
chainloader +1

(Do not type this line but if that does not work on re-boot try “hdo,0 or hd0,2” and so on until it works.)

Now that is done you can re-boot into windows 7 and ubuntu happily

******************Edit***********************
Hi
I have remembered that if you also have vista installed on your machine when you in install 7, that windows 7 will add itself to the vista bootloader.

So You will need to point grub to the vista partition so it will load the vista loader and give you the option for 7 and vista.

Also To work out what partition number your 7 partiton is use gparted it will give you results like "Windows 7 sda2" that means hda0,2 or if you have two internal hard drives than change the tab in the top right to the appropriate disk. Then take note of the sda2 but as it is on the 2nd drive it will be hda1,2. And so on..........
