Tower Distance Problem

Hello friends,

I m new member here. I have ordered for an EVDO card today due to this forum. I had paid 4202/- for the purchase of the card and will pay 550/- + 12.5% tax = 618.50/- per month. I have also consulted SDO, Commercial Officer n others of my area (I live in PATNA).
As I read here that one will get good speed if one is in 4-5 km of tower range. But the person at BSNL was saying that EVDO will work when one is in >2km range of tower. IS THAT RIGHT? I m 2.5 -3km away from the tower. I dont know what speed will I get Guests cannot see images in the messages. Please register in our forum for free by clicking here to see images. . I m first subscriber in my localty so no user reviews from nearby people while others people near tower r getting very good speed, from 100KBps to 256KBps.

i dont think it's like that... i am also applying for the same...i am in nit p and live near the college in golakpur..i heard some guys are using that in hostel so i hope it will work in my flat...but i dont know where are the towers in patna?
you ahve any idea?

Nice to hear anyone from Patna. I think that there are 3-4 towers in patna which is EVDO ready, one is Boring Road, second in Anishabad, n others i dont know.

I live in kankarbagh colony,PATNA near Buddha Dental college. BSNL people told me that there is EVDO tower in kankarbagh exchange which is less than 2kms from my house. Still i get only 2 tower bars(and rarely 3) with 100 kbps average speed. Though maximum speed shown goes to 400-500 kbps sometimes but greatly fluctuates even to zero. I contacted BSNL and i was told all this coz i live in ground floor and there r lots of hindrances. Accepted the ground floor hindrance fact, but still the signal n speed is not as what claimed by BSNL. I think one should expect blazing speed only if your house is within 1km radius and u live in 4th, 5th floor of a building. But still I had invested lot of research time before taking this connection. Considering the fact my house is within 2 kms from the tower I'm not at all satisfied.

But still this is a good option for those who spend much time on net because no wireless unlimited scheme is so cheap. But still I wish we had a dynamic IP's for rapidshare downloads...
